MAKING A SILVERADO 2500 HD BETTER| DIY STEP BY STEP
Making our Chevrolet 2500 HD better!
After travelling in our chev 2500 HD for 5000km we had to make some changes to our Chev for towing our caravan around Australia. We get in and change the shocks and add airbags to the rear of the chev and change the from upper control arms to suite the 3" lift and 35" tyres.
The Bilstein shocks are a huge upgrade to help with the proposing of the chev when towing our caravan.
Take a look and see what we have done and how it changes the chev.

    I read somewhere that the maximum lift allowed is 50mm whether it's by suspension or tyres or both but the maximum is 50mm, unless you have a engineered certification. Is that correct.

    Look at the OZ Glide hitch for your caravan. Brad and Hayley had one on their van and gave it a very good wrap. The advantage is that it doesn't extend the hitch point behind the rear axel, causing more leverage and loading.

    The rig looks great. Congrats. In the new yesr i am looking at buying and doing similar with a Ram 2500 . I also tow a Zone Sojourn with a 4000kg GTM. . The problem with all three USA machines is in standard car rego trim only allow a 900kg load capacity. Once you add up the necessary accessories thst you need to add eg bull bar, full fuel passengers, personal items, tool kit caravan tow ball down load, that runs you close to the load rating limit without putting anything in the tub. I am thinking of keeping the tub and adding a canopy on top. The only problem with that is dust ingress. So it looks as if you and i will need to do a light truck rego to benefit from these trucks. Suggestions welcomed

    Hi Derek. I think you will find quite a lot of differences in the engine specifications. Different piston design, turbo etc and the improvement s. Hence the extra kws and torque! We went with bilstien B60 Shocks and airbags on the back. Kept the ride height stock. It travels great. Ed is great to deal with and knows his stuff. Get a set of gm tyre sensors for your caravan wheels, they integrate into the car display and are great not expensive either. Have a look at the shock hitch, it doesn't push the attachment point of the hitch as far as a gen y hitch which affects your leverage

    Hey guys looks good. We tow 4t behind our Ram 1500 and love the ride. We fitted rear bags and heavier shocks and coils because the van is hooked on 90% of the time. I also fitted a gen y torsion hitch based on reviews. We have since removed this as it made the ute ride terrible. To us it felt like the rear of the ute the hitch and van were all fighting each other. Its also worth considering to that these types of aftermarket hitches can also change rear axle weights due to the tow-ball download being further back. Safe travels.

We drove down to Sawtell on the coast for the day & went swimming at the beach as their young girls had not often been to the beach. Beautiful and warm day. Do you realise that as soon as you modify your suspension or install a front bar etc, your warranty disappears faster than a drunken sailor's pay packet. I've got a GMC Sierra 2500 Denali HD, and I'm not modifying anything for 5 years when the warranty expires. Even then, consumer legislation gives you protection for failure of items which reasonably should have lasted longer than the warranty period, but when you modify, you will blow that away also.

    • @shanenorwell8580
      @shanenorwell8580 4 дні тому

      Not strictly correct. Sure your warranty won’t cover the mods or any issues caused by the mods but modifying your vehicle doesn’t put a blanket ban on your warranty. It’s a bit of a myth.

    • @frankguernier2280
      @frankguernier2280 3 дні тому

      @shanenorwell8580 True to a degree, but mods such as gvm increases gives the manufacturer an out re suspension and more importantly drive train issues. They will claim you have exceeded their engineers design specs and possibly walk away.

    • @shanenorwell8580
      @shanenorwell8580 3 дні тому

      @@frankguernier2280 and that I can agree with/understand. it’s the blanket “void you warranty” statement that gives me the shits, like fitting a bullbar will void the warranty for rear wheel bearings (or whatever that’s not related to a bullbar)…
